Kovai Building Collapse

An old two storey residential building at Chetti Veedhi near Selvapuram in Coimbatore district collapsed on 06.09.2020 at 09.30 pm due to rain. As a result, 8 members of the same family were trapped inside the collapsed building.

Firefighters from Coimbatore (South) Fire and Rescue Station  rushed to the spot and started rescuing the victims. A team of firefighters from Coimbatore (North), Thondamuthur and Ganapathy stations was called in to assist the rescue operation.

Five of the victims were rescued alive and taken to hospital for treatment. 3 victims died at the spot and the bodies were retrieved by firefighters after a long struggle and taken to the hospital for autopsy.
