Great Salute to the Martyrs from Madurai
Two firemen from Madurai Meenakshi Amman temple Fire Station, FM9384 P.Krishnamoorthy (2013 Batch) and FM8609 K. Sivarajan (2009 Batch), were killed when the roof of a textile shop collapsed on them while they were battling a fire in the early hours of Diwali day.
Two other firemen, M. Chinna Karuppu and R. Kalyana Kumar, who were also trapped under the debris of the building, however, managed to come out and were admitted to private hospital for treatment.
Honourable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Edappadi K Palaniswami announced an ex-gratia compensation of Rs 25 lakh per person, Rs 10 lakh will be given from the Chief Minister’s Public Relief Fund and Rs 15 lakh will be given from the government funds for the ‘sense of duty and sacrifice’ of both the firefighters. The Chief Minister also announced that a government job will be provided to one family member of the deceased based on their qualifications. Rs 3 lakh each will be provided to the families of firefighters Kalyana Kumar and Chinna Karuppu, who were injured while trying to douse the blaze. The state government will also take care of their medical expenses.
Director of Tamilnadu Fire and Rescue Services DGP M.S.Jaffar Sait IPS who rushed to Madurai, paid his last respects to the two martyrs and offered condolences to their family members. He visited the injured in the hospital. He also inspected the place of accident and gave due instructions to Officers to avoid such accidents in future.
