Four fire calls and five rescue calls were reported in Chennai City on 03.09.2004 .
Fire at Fire Works in Virudhunagar claims 2 lives :
An explosion at the Gun Powder Room at Sri Sai Girinath Fire Works, Peria Valiyur, Mudalipatti, Virudhunagar, killed two workers. The explosion is said to have been caused by lightning. The two persons who were killed were busy filling crackers with mixed powder and died on the spot.
Fire at Boat Manufacturing Company in Marakanam:
There was a fire at Jayam Boat Manufacturing Company situated at ECR Road, Marakanam Village around 00.21 hrs. The plastic materials stored for manufacturing boats caught fire. The fire seems to be a case of arson due to mutual rivalry. Police are investigating the case. A Fire and Rescue Service party under Markanam Station Officer put out the fire.

Four fire calls and three rescue calls were reported in Chennai City
At Pudhu Street, Mannady a girl aged 22 years slipped and fell into a well. The rescue team from Vepery Fire and Rescue Service Station rushed to the spot to rescue the girl. The members of the rescue team immediately descended to the well with the help of ropes. A chair-knot prepared with the help of ropes was used and the girl was brought alive out of the well. The girl was immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment.

On receipt of information at 09.30 p.m that two persons had entered the Punjab National Bank situated at Parry Buildings, Rajaji Salai, Chennai, the personnel of Fire and Rescue Services rushed to the spot and entered the first floor of the eight storeyed building through windows with the help of a ladder. They secured a man aged 31 years who got entry into the bank through the tree with an intention to steal money. He was handed over to the police who were present at the spot.

In Chennai City (South Division) six fire calls and one rescue call were reported
At Appamudaliyar Street near Alandhur a cat fell into a private well. The Rescue Team rushed from Guindy Fire and Rescue Station and rescued the cat alive.
In Chennai City South two fire calls and one rescue call were received
At Sembium near Madavaram Road a pony fell down into the Municipality canal and found it difficult to come out. The Rescue Team turned out from Sembium Fire and Rescue Station and recovered the trapped pony using rope.

Three fire calls and two rescue calls were reported in Chennai City (North Division)
At Collectorate, Singaravelan Maligai, there was a beehive in the sixth floor. The menace of the bees was a great disturbance to the office as well as the public who visited the office. A team led by Mr. M. Namasivayam, Assistant Divisional Officer, Special Appliances rushed to the spot with Turn Table Ladder, torched the hive which was hanging from the windowsill with the help of hand held flame torch.
At Annanagar East, a 2-year old child was trapped in the bathroom. The Fire and Rescue Services Party with the Emergency Rescue Tender rushed from Kilpauk Fire and Rescue Station. The personnel cut the window grill and rescued the baby safely.
In Chennai City (South Division) two fire calls were received.
At V.G.P. Nagar near Mugapperu a shop was gutted. The fire is suspected have been caused by electrical short circuit. The Fire and Rescue Services party rushed from Koyambedu Fire and Rescue Station put out the fire and saved the nearby shop.

In Chennai North Division, six fire accidents were reported. Almost all the fires were caused by short circuits.
In Chennai South Division, three small fires occurred in Chennai South Division. Two fires were caused by leakage of gas from domestic gas cylinders and one by electrical short circuit.

30.08.2004: In West Mambalam, one person died due to poisonous gas inhaled while cleaning a well. The Fire and Rescue Services party from Tynampet Fire and Rescue Station recovered the dead body.
In a fire near Broadway Terminal, seven shops were gutted. The fire is suspected to have been caused by an electric short circuit. The Fire and Rescue Services party from Esplanade Fire and Rescue Station put out the fire.

Building Collapse at Coimbatore Kills 6 :
On august 29th 2004 the front mandapam collapsed when the construction of Mahalakshmi Mandir was underway at Echanari near Coimbatore. Six person died and twenty one others were grievously injured in this accident.
The 40 foot mantap was being put up over a 36 foot Hanuman idol with the support of four concrete pillars. Among the four pillars two came down this afternoon due to the overweight of concrete mixtures. There were nearly 30 persons engaged in the construction work among whom 14 person trapped in the collapsed structure. The fire and rescue services perusonnel rescued the trapped person using searchlight and earthmoving equipments and admitted them in the nearby Hospital. The rescue operation continued for the whole night and was completed by 7 am on 30.08.2004. Mr. V. Madurapandian, Deputy Director (West Zone) and Mrs. Priya Ravichandiran, Divisional Officer, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services supervised the rescue work.
Fire and Rescue Services Exhibition at Salem District :
The Divisional Officer, Salem organised a Fire Safety Awareness Programme on 28.07.2004 at Sri Vidya Mandir Higher Secondary School in Salem. The programme also included mock drill and the students were trained in evacuation drill. Mr R. Sugumaran, IAS, Collector, Salem District was the Chief Guest. Before the start of the programme fire awareness rally was organised and at the end of the rally the fire commandoes demonstrated as to how to operate the equipment displayed there. In the exhibition hall all the modern equipments were displayed to the students as well as to the public.
