Tuticorin Thermal Power Plant Fire Incident

A sudden fire broke out at the Tamil Nadu government-owned Tuticorin Thermal Power Plant on March 15, 2025, at 9:00 PM, affecting Units 01 and 02. Upon receiving the information, the Tuticorin Thermal Power Plant Fire Station crew rushed to the firespot and engaged in extinguishing the fire.  

Following this, additional firefighting teams with advanced fire engines arrived from six districts — Tuticorin, Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, Kanyakumari, Ramanathapuram, and Madurai — to assist in the firefighting efforts. Their timely response prevented the fire from spreading to Units 03, 04, and 05, thereby averting further major damage. 

The fire was completely brought under control by March 16, 2025, at 9:00 PM. Tirunelveli and Madurai Regional Deputy Directors also arrived at the scene to expedite the firefighting operations. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the police.
